Who are we
Shell Midstream Control Center remotely controls and monitors pipeline systems and terminals in compliance with the applicable Department of Transportation regulations.
The Pipeline Controller is responsible for the safe and efficient remote operation of pipelines, tanks, and pumping equipment involved in the transportation of crude oil and other products. The Controller must consistently ensure the safety of pipeline operations and prevent any environmental damage while meeting established schedules and customer needs, minimizing costs and securing product integrity.
What’s the role?
Shell Midstream operates US pipelines that receive crude from Shell and third-party E&P facilities and deliver to Shell and other refineries. Shell Midstream also operates pipelines that receive refined products and chemicals from Shell and third-party refineries and chemical plants and deliver to Shell and third-party distribution terminals and pipeline systems.
The Midstream Control Center is required to comply with applicable Department of Transportation regulations contained in Subpart F—Operation and Maintenance of 49 CFR Part 195—Transportation of Hazardous Liquids by Pipeline and Subpart L—Operations of 49 CFR Part 192—Transportation of Natural and other Gas by Pipeline.
The Console Supervisor manages one of the seven operational consoles in the Midstream Control Center. Responsibilities and Expectations of the Pipeline Controller include:
- Maintaining safe and compliant 24/7 remote operations of all assets
- Ensuring Staff meet all Control Center Training and Qualification Program (Department of Transportation – DOT) and corporate training requirements
- Must be qualified to operate assigned pipeline systems
- Must comply with ongoing training requirements
- Must comply with re-qualification training requirements
- Have the ability to recognize and react appropriately in a manner that protects the safety and well-being of the communities and environments in which the pipeline is operated
- Have the ability to recognize and react to variations from normal operations when sending operational commands to equipment and/or assuring automated sequencing functions as designed
- Act in compliance with the Control Center Operations Procedures Manual
- Act in compliance with Control Room Management (CRM) Plan
- Act in compliance with Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS)
- Act as a “Qualifier”, providing orientation and instruction to Controller Trainees and candidate Control Room Supervisors on console and system specific items
- Instruct one Controller Trainee under their direct observation and complete required training documentation
- Identify and document any areas of weakness that a Controller Trainee may have and progress or lack of progress in those areas
- Notify the Control Room Supervisor if a concern exists about a Controller Trainee’s ability to meet the requirements of the Training and Qualification Program
What we need from you
- Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
- Must have minimum of 3 years’ experience
- Bachelor’s or PTech Degree
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must be able to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers
- Willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule
- As a part of the pre-employment selection process, candidates are required to submit to and receive satisfactory results from all pre-employment background, drug, medical, and reference checks

The base salary range for this position is $84,000 - $126,000 per year. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
