The Risk Management Department is the hub through which conflict of interest checks are performed for new clients and new matters. The Conflicts Clerk is responsible for running conflict searches and identifying potential conflicts for attorneys to review further. The ideal candidate is someone with conflicts experience who is detail-oriented and will thrive in a fast-paced environment. This position reports to the Manager of Conflicts & Compliance, with guidance from the Director of Conflicts and the Firm's General Counsel. This role offers the opportunity to work full-time from a remote office in accordance with the Firm's Agile Work Policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform time-sensitive and thorough research and data analysis relating to the Firm’s new business and other special projects to ensure that the Firm minimizes risk and identifies possible ethical and business-related conflicts of interests.
- Prepare conflict reports and summaries of research for attorney review. Communicate with attorneys and team members to ensure accuracy and completeness of conflict reports.
- Coordinate the tracking of engagement letters, waiver letters, disclosure letters, Business Associate (B.A.) Agreements (related to HIPAA requirements), and other new business or risk management related documentation, as required.
- Research prospective clients and other entity names in internal and external databases to identify potential issues and to ensure data integrity for producing accurate conflict reports.
- Works on special projects under the direction of the Manager of Conflicts & Compliance and/or General Counsel.
Required Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 1-2 years of law firm conflict work experience required.
- Strong analytical and deductive reasoning skills.
- Experience with Elite Enterprise or Aderant is preferred.
- Excellent database and internet research skills and solid computer skills generally.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to communicate concisely, accurately, and professionally with lawyers and administrative staff; familiarity with legal terms and conflicts of interest rules a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with teammates to ensure exceptional customer service.
Salary
Hanson Bridgett offers a competitive salary and benefits. The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $75,000, and represents the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation will depend upon a number of factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, and skill set.
