Job Title: Program Intake & Referral Specialist (Full-time or Part-time)

Location: Vista, CA

Salary: $22-25/hour

Purpose of Position: To serve as the first point of contact for program participants, assess their needs, and facilitate appropriate referrals to internal programs or external community resources. The Intake & Referral Specialist will apply keen attention to detail, compassion and resourcefulness to improve the quality of life of women veterans and their children.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial screenings, interviews, and assessments to determine client eligibility for programs and services.
  • Communicate with applicants about program details, requirements, and application process. 
  • Refer clients to internal programs as well as external organizations for support specific to their unique situation including mental health, food resources, employment, and legal.
  • Properly record case notes and track all client correspondence via client management database Apricot.
  • Maintain accurate records of client interactions, referrals, and program enrollments in databases.
  • Be familiar with the resources in the community to refer appropriate applicants to other available resources.  
  • Build relationships with community partners that address the needs of women veterans and stay updated on available resources to ensure comprehensive support for clients.
  • Conduct community outreach and attend community events, as assigned.
  • Provide guidance, answer questions, and conduct follow-ups to ensure clients successfully access services and resources.


Job Requirements:

  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain positive communications and relationships with clients, supervisors, partnering agencies, and other individuals in the community.
  • Must work well autonomously and collaboratively with a team.
  • Excellent online research skills.
  • Strong database/client management skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel, Adobe.
  • Automobile required to be maintained in working condition to travel to various collaborative meetings throughout San Diego and surrounding counties/areas. Proof of automobile insurance required.
  • Must have commitment to the Foundation for Women Warriors mission and uphold its values and ethics.


Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or relevant work history relative to the Social Services field preferred.   
  • Willing to occasionally work weekends (as required).
  • Military connection is highly valued.   


Language Skills: Strong written and spoken English skills. Bilingual – Spanish is desirable.
