Kahler Slater is seeking a Project Manager who is enthusiastic about leading projects for our Education, Sports, + Culture Team.

Our ideal Project Manager for Higher Education is a design forward, problem solver with a passion for campus-based projects that could include health sciences, science and technology and sports/recreation facilities projects. As a Project Manager, you will inspire, motivate, and educate your project teams and clients and you develop and lead complex projects.

You will work with a team that is aligned with our open and flexible culture that encourages individual initiative and collaboration. You will build trusting relationships within the team and across Kahler Slater.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities of a Project Manager - Education, Sports + Culture

Leadership

  • Direct and manage the internal and external design team from initial planning through construction administration
  • Coordinate team’s work plans and evaluate team performance
  • Contribute to a high level of energy and enthusiasm on the team, and foster a spirit of collaborative problem solving and design excellence
  • Build strong relationships with staff, clients, and the communities we serve as a representative of Kahler Slater
  • Communicate with internal and external team to ensure project success

Business Development

  • Assist in proposal writing and fee processes
  • Support the strategies and implementation of marketing efforts
  • Maintain relationships with past clients and win repeat work

Project Development

  • Develop, manage, and maintain project goals (FDE, sustainability, financial, firm, marketing)
  • Collaborate with financial services staff to manage financial performance
  • Create, monitor, and control project schedule
  • Review contracts and identify additional services

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of a Project Manager - Education, Sports + Culture

  • 10+ years of experience as an architectural professional with experience and passion in Education, Sports Culture markets
  • Experience with public and private higher education clients/projects
  • Professional degree in Architecture preferred
  • Ability to develop architectural team project work plans, project fees, and budgets
  • Successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors
  • Project management software skills, Deltek Vantagepoint preferred
  • Working knowledge of Revit preferred
  • Strong communications skills, spoken, written, and graphic
  • Proficient understanding of building construction and project delivery systems
  • Highly attentive to client needs
  • Able to coach and be coachable
  • Able to work effectively under pressure and within restrictive time deadlines and budget parameters while maintaining focus, positive attitude
  • Completion of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Construction & Professional Services Manual (CPSM) Webinar and prior Division of Engineering & Buildings (DEB) project experience preferred

Working relationships and scope for a Project Manager - Education, Sports + Culture

  • Reports to Education, Sports + Culture Team Leader
  • Collaborate with other project managers and leads project team members
  • Represents the firm in alignment with Kahler Slater’s core values
  • Mentors staff members

Working conditions for a Project Manager:

Work is performed in a professional, collaborative, creative, open office environment. Great flexibility in your schedule is both required of you and returned to you due to our many project deadlines. Occasional overnight travel is expected as it relates to servicing clients and professional development.
