Schedule: Monday and Friday (8am - 4pm or 9am - 5pm), Tuesday through Thursday (1pm - 9pm)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The Shelter coordinator is responsible for creating a safe, healthy and structured environment for youth seeking shelter. The Shelter coordinator also provides support services to ensure that the daily needs of youth are met as well as providing the necessary services to stabilize, assess, and make referrals to needed resources. The Shelter coordinator provides direct supervision of Youth Empowerment Specialist Supervisors including Overnight Supervisors and plays a key role in our multidisciplinary approach to providing services. The coordinator reports to the Director of Residential Services.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Covenant House Georgia reserves the right to unilaterally modify, remove, or add to any of the following:

  • Uphold Covenant House Georgia standards of conduct, policies and procedures always
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled or mandatory meetings, trainings and supervision sessions as requested
  • Oversee the monitoring of the physical condition of the facility by conducting internal and external rovers to ensure a clean, safe and hazard free environment
  • Serve as liaison to external entities; report all maintenance concerns to Facilities Manager
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the program and management of milieu
  • Role model effective milieu management by being present on the shelter floor for at least 75% of scheduled shifts
  • Develop and maintain work schedule ensuring proper coverage of every shift and maintaining ratios
  • Train, develop and supervise program staff
  • Maintain the kitchen in a sanitary manner and ensure the SERV Safe standards are being upheld
  • Complete performance appraisals, recommendations for corrective action and create development plans
  • Ensure intakes are completed within 48 hours of arrival and discharges are completed within 72 hours according to the Data Integrity Plans and ensure staff is completing data entry into ETO and Client Track accurately and timely.
  • Monitor data for program outcomes and performance and utilize data to drive service provision.
  • Review case plans and ensure clients’ service needs are being met
  • Attend Case Review meetings as needed and at least once monthly
  • Participate in panels, Motivational Mondays, and other program meetings
  • Investigate critical incident reports
  • Orient new staff
  • Manage department’s budget, petty cash, and other expenditures
  • Manage the administration of grants; ensure program complies and meets all grant reporting requirements
  • Serve on on-call rotation
  • Always be available for youth calls and staff emergencies
  • Maintain and/or oversee scheduling of staff and ensuring all shifts are appropriately covered
  • Develop partnerships with external service providers
  • Run monthly team meetings
  • Complete and submit monthly program report
  • Perform all other tasks as requested by Directors of Residential and Case Management Service and/or Leadership Team

KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

  • Must be able to network and build collaborations with other social service agencies in Atlanta
  • Knowledge of external and social service systems
  • Knowledge of social and casework skills with adolescents and their families
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to the needs of homeless and at-risk youth
  • Must have a thorough working knowledge of human service delivery systems and resources for our population
  • Ability to:
    • establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, supervisors, representatives of other agencies, and the public
    • effectively communicate verbally with both internal and external individuals and/or businesses
    • work flexible schedule when needed
    • monitor and evaluate program effectiveness and discuss observations with supervisor to maintain and enhance program functioning
    • respond appropriately to emergencies and crises at the facility and in the lives of the youth served, consistent with agency values and policies
    • respond immediately to emergencies and resolve issues with clients and/or staff
    • multi-task
    • work sitting, standing, and/or walking a minimum of 8 hours per day/shift
    • lift and move items typically weighing 5-35 pounds
    • drive agency vehicles to transport items and/or persons (valid Georgia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record as required by insurance company required)
    • All other duties as assigned

SUPERVISRORY DUTIES:
This position supervises youth empowerment specialist (supervisors – evening and overnight staff), youth empowerment specialists (evening and overnight staff), is responsible for scheduling staff, and managing time sheet (time approvals and overtime)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Master’s degree in social work, psychology, or related field with five (5) years of experience with adolescents and troubled youth preferred. Bachelor’s degree with comparable work experience in the social service industry with eight (8) years of experience with adolescents and troubled youth preferred. Or a combination of both

  • Strong professional boundaries, communication, interpersonal, managerial and / or supervisory skills required
  • Strong computer skills and willingness to learn new software
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Flexible, amiable, & willing to work as a team player
  • Excellent organizational skills


WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed (non-traditional hours)
  • Ability to work standing, walking, and/or sitting a minimum of 8-10 hours per day
  • Ability to drive agency or personal vehicles to transport items and/or persons – if needed
  • Valid Georgia Driver’s License with acceptable driving record required
