General Job Description

The Accounts Payable Specialist will work closely with the Assistant Director of Accounting to process all phases of the Accounts Payable function from receipt of invoice to payment (manual checks, ACH and wires), obtain approvals, ensure payment within terms, create payment files and supplier set up.

This is a hands-on position that will be an integral part of the accounting department that will focus on Accounts Payable. This is a full-time, exempt position in MPR’s Alexandria, VA office.

  • Receive vendor invoices, process vendor invoices, record Vouchers in Vision (Deltek), obtain approvals, ensure payment within terms, and create payment files.
  • Setup vendors and maintain vendors’ (master file) information in Vision (Deltek).
  • Ensure compliance with tax reporting requirements (W9 & 1099 forms).
  • Assist with month-end close processes, including accruals.
  • Interact in a professional manner with senior management, company employees, finance staff, and external parties.
  • Review and process employee expense reports, ensuring compliance with client requirements and company policies.
  • Provide information and create schedules and reconciliations for external audits including F/S audits.
  • Perform additional assignments, as directed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or a minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in the accounting field.
  • At least one (1) year of experience processing accounts payable.
  • Working knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • Experience of Deltek (Vision/Vantage point) is preferred.
  • Experienced with Elevia’s Electronic Invoicing and/or Payables Approval & Tracking is preferred.

  • Proficiency in MS Office suite; specifically, MS Excel.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Motivated to expand skills and knowledge, as well as tackle new problems and take on new responsibilities.
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, set priorities and see tasks through to completion.
  • Persistent, questioning attitude and ability to accept that in others.
