The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at the University of Iowa invites applications for a Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA) clinical track faculty position to begin August 19, 2026. Rank is open.
*Description *
The College of Education is dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in Higher Education and Student Affairs (HESA). We are committed to preparing leaders and scholars who address fundamental challenges faced by our students and our institutions. We welcome candidates for an open-rank, clinical-track faculty position who embrace innovation, change, and challenge and want to build with us.
The clinical track at the University of Iowa has a career progression that includes promotion opportunities (assistant, associate, full professor). The College of Education provides support for clinical faculty in professional development, conference travel, and scholarship related to clinical faculty members’ areas of work.
*Education Requirement*
Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate by August 2026. The degree may be in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or a closely related field.
*Required Qualifications*
- A minimum of five years’ full-time professional experience in student affairs or higher education administration
- Teaching experience in a higher education context
- Evidence of an ability to work both collaboratively and independently in a team-oriented environment
- Involvement in relevant national or regional professional organizations (e.g., ACPA, NAFSA, NASPA, ASHE, CPED, ACUHO-I, or similar organizations)
- Experience supporting professional preparation for people seeking careers in student affairs
- Experience mentoring graduate students on research projects
- Experience teaching at the graduate level
- Experience teaching online or in a hybrid modality
- Demonstrated skills and understanding of the administration of academic programs and services
- Experience contributing to a welcoming and respectful academic environment.
Responsibilities
The successful applicant will provide instruction and mentoring to students across all departmental programs with a focus primarily on the M.A. and Ed.D (online) programs. Additional responsibilities include supporting these programs with tasks that may include but are not limited to:
- Managing enrollment (recruitment, admission, advising assignments, curriculum planning, orientation)
- Coordinating campus partnerships and other contractual relationships
- Facilitating the program’s experiential learning opportunities (internship, practica, and capstone)
- Developing and conducting program professional development courses and workshops
- Designing and championing program assessment.

Nine-month beginning August 19, 2026. Paid summer teaching opportunities may be available.

*About the Department and Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA)*
The [Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies](https://education.uiowa.edu/about/administration/department-educational-policy-and-leadership-studies) (EPLS) at the University of Iowa includes 14 faculty members and serves over 150 students. The department includes has two programs: Educational Leadership (M.A., Ed.S., Ed.D., and Ph.D.) and Higher Education and Student Affairs (M.A., Ed.D., and Ph.D.). EPLS has an international reputation for advancements in the areas of evaluation and assessment, educational measurement, and effective undergraduate education, among other research initiatives. In addition to the degree program, Iowa HESA offers certificate programs to students who serve as educational leaders, scholars, and practitioners in postsecondary institutions and educationally-aligned organizations.
