Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Assistant Estimator to join our team. The Assistant Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project specifications, conducting material and labor cost estimates, and preparing accurate and competitive bids for all projects. Coordinate with manufacturing and installation to acquire accurate costing information as well as outside vendors for products not produced in house as well as raw materials. The ideal candidate will have strong mathematical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a keen eye for detail.

The Assistant Estimator will be responsible for analyzing project specifications, conducting material and labor cost estimates, and preparing accurate and competitive bids for all projects. Coordinate with manufacturing and installation to acquire accurate costing information as well as outside vendors for products not produced in house as well as raw materials. The ideal candidate will have strong mathematical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a keen eye for detail.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support
- Generate estimates and proposals.
- Review project plans, specifications, and requirements to gain a thorough understanding of project scope and objectives.
- Calculate material, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs based on project requirements and specifications.
- Acquire signage and raw material costs from outside vendors.
- Identify and quantify project risks and contingencies and incorporate them into cost estimates.
- Correspond with various customer types during the bid and award process.
- Meet with project managers when necessary to review the job scope. Responsive to all inquiries/estimates in a timely and appropriate manner
- Work with project managers and design to get projects handed off accurately.
- Follow administrative processes, procedures, guidelines, and policies.
- Additional tasks, duties and special projects may be assigned, as necessary.
- Education/Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in building science or related field preferred.
- Work Experience/Requirements
- Entry Level
- Must be able to read and interpret a set of construction plans
- Must have basic computer skills
- Thorough knowledge of the commercial construction industry.
- Knowledge of the importance of proper customer service.
- Broad-based knowledge of a business environment.
- Two to Five years of construction or related experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic electrical knowledge.
- Excellent time management skills.
- Able to use Windows based computer hardware and software including Excel and Word.
- Good interpersonal skills to communicate with employees, vendors, etc.
- Adaptability.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Deadline driven.
- Self-motivated.
- Teamwork oriented.
- Ability to understand different trades and skillsets.
- Basic purchasing and accounting skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Microsoft Excel- Used for estimates, production schedules
- Power BI reports
