Job Summary
The Regional Modernization Director leads the strategic and operational execution of modernization and construction projects across a defined geographic region. Reporting to the Regional Vice President, this role is responsible for driving project performance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement in field execution. The Director will oversee regional construction teams, manage modernization initiatives, and ensure alignment with company goals, safety standards, and customer expectations.

The Regional Modernization Director leads the strategic and operational execution of modernization and construction projects across a defined geographic region. Reporting to the Regional Vice President, this role is responsible for driving project performance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement in field execution. The Director will oversee regional construction teams, manage modernization initiatives, and ensure alignment with company goals, safety standards, and customer expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Modernization & Construction Execution
- Lead the planning and execution of regional modernization and construction projects, ensuring timely delivery, budget adherence, and quality outcomes.
- Oversee field operations, including technician performance, subcontractor management, and site safety compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and service teams to scope, design, and deliver modernization solutions tailored to customer needs.
- Ensure all projects meet regulatory, safety, and company standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in construction workflows, resource utilization, and project closeout processes.
- Build strong relationships with regional customers, ensuring satisfaction and identifying opportunities for additional modernization work.
- Partner with sales and account management to support business development and expand modernization services in underpenetrated markets.
- Monitor customer feedback and project outcomes to refine service offerings and improve future project delivery.
- Manage regional P&L for modernization projects, ensuring profitability and cost control.
- Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs), including project timelines, margins, safety incidents, and customer satisfaction.
- Develop and implement recovery plans for underperforming projects or teams.
- Lead integration efforts for newly acquired branches or teams within the region.
- Build and lead a high-performing regional modernization team, including project managers and technicians.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and excellence in execution.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and career development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure alignment with company values and promote a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field.
- 10+ years of experience in refrigeration (supermarket preferred) construction or modernization, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Proven success managing large-scale, multi-site construction or modernization projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC-R systems, union labor practices, and safety compliance.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in project management tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and driving project profitability.
- Regular travel across the region to oversee project sites and meet with teams and clients.
- Ability to work in construction environments, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 15 pounds.
- Occasional ride-alongs with field technicians and site visits required.
