Senior Energy Reporter, North America at Keller Executive Search
Our client is a well-established international business news publisher known for independent, insight-driven journalism read by senior decision-makers. They are seeking an experienced business journalist to cover the North American energy industry from Houston. This is a senior, highly visible role for someone who can work independently while being part of a close, globally connected newsroom.
What You'll Do
- Break exclusive news and deliver fast, accurate reporting on energy companies, projects and policy across the United States and Canada
- Produce a broad mix of content, from breaking news and earnings coverage to in-depth features, analysis and investigative pieces
- Cover key areas including shale, offshore exploration and development, LNG, oilfield services, and the industry's lower-carbon initiatives
- Build and maintain a strong network of senior industry sources
- Attend major industry conferences, with opportunities to moderate panels, take part in discussions and network on behalf of the publication
- Work closely with editors and reporters across several international time zones, including regular daily editorial handovers
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree; a background in business, economics or a related field is an advantage
- Knowledge of the oil, gas or wider energy sector is a strong advantage but not essential
- Proven experience as a business journalist covering an industry, with a track record of original and exclusive stories
- Excellent reporting, writing and editing skills across online news and long-form features
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the curiosity to dig beneath the headlines
- Confidence engaging with senior executives and strong people skills
- A self-directed, proactive approach suited to remote work, paired with a genuine team mindset
- Data journalism and multimedia skills
Benefits
- Base salary of $120,000 to $140,000, (commensurate with experience)
- Medical, dental and vision benefits program
- Travel of roughly 1 to 2 days per month
- Relocation assistance to Houston
