Responsibilities

H.W. Kaufman Group/Burns & Wilcox is currently seeking an experienced lawyer for our Corporate Counsel role. This position will be responsible for providing strategic and procedural legal guidance including; corporate governance, employment law, transactions, regulatory issues, and other legal matters as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice, counsel, guidance and support to our holding company and subsidiaries on business transactions, contract review and regulatory and legal compliance issues with a focus on global privacy and cybersecurity, operational resilience and information management laws and regulations
  • Assist with a range of corporate matters such as intercompany arrangements, corporate governance and management
  • Conduct general and complex legal research and advise on a variety of topics
  • Monitor applicable state and federal regulations that affect the Company and its products and various business units
  • Review and advise on a wide range of corporate contracts including contracts with carrier and retail partners
  • Support compliance programs to minimize legal risk, including assisting in developing and implementing company policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with the maintenance of the company's Enterprise Risk Management program, including drafting policies, procedures, and documentation regarding risk tolerance and acceptance
  • Assist in the maintenance of the company's privacy program, including working with the company's Information Security and Risk Governance teams
  • Advise the company's business units regarding compliance with contracts and laws relating to all areas of the business, including HR, Marketing, and Information Technology

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • D. required; prior experience practicing law, litigation experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to find creative solutions on diverse matters requiring complex legal and strategic analysis
  • Knowledge of Property/Casualty insurance industry, including regulatory environment for admitted and non-admitted lines of business a plus preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of the organization, both internally and externally
  • Excellent attention to detail, as well as, strong time management, organizational and analytical skills
