Communications Writer-Editor

BETAH is a leading communications and management consulting firm that delivers impactful and strategic communication services to federal clients. This position will support a dedicated team of communications specialists who provide comprehensive services to support our client's vision that all people should be able to live independently and participate fully in their communities.

We seek a writer-editor to provide essential, strategic content development and editing support across programs and initiatives. The writer-editor will develop content that communicates complex health, aging, and disability-related topics clearly, concisely, and plainly. This role involves drafting, editing, and proofreading a wide range of materials, ensuring alignment with style guidelines and strategies of client programs.

Essential Duties

  • Write and edit original content for various products, including fact sheets, reports, social media, blog posts, and website content, adhering to AP Style and plain language principles.
  • Conduct substantive and copyediting for long-form and short-form content, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to client style guides and standards.
  • Proofread various reports, including reports to Congress and topical program reports.
  • Collaborate with the project team to develop strategic communication plans and campaigns for key client initiatives, including national observances.
  • Support the reorganization and curation of website content.
  • Ghostwrite blog posts for client staff and leadership.
  • Assist in creating and editing presentations and talking points for program staff.
  • Assist in developing procedures, toolkits, and other communications products.
  • Participate in client meetings/events and provide meeting summaries.
  • Manage assigned projects through an online task management platform.

Minimum Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, English, journalism, or a related field.
  • At least five years of relevant writing and editing experience.
  • At least two years of experience with AP style.

Qualifications

  • Proven ability to write clear, engaging, and accessible content for diverse audiences.
  • Capacity to synthesize complex information into engaging plain language content.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in editing and proofreading long-form and short-form content.
  • Substantial experience in writing health or human-services content for diverse audiences
  • Experience writing in the narrative, descriptive, and persuasive forms.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Preferred: Government contracting, especially with health or human services clients
  • Preferred: Aging- or disability-related content creation.
