The Sensory Technician reports to the FSQA Manager. The Sensory Technician implements and monitors sensory practices and programs to assure that quality, safety and regulatory compliance standards are met for Peet’s products. The sensory technician is responsible for ensuring the timely flow of samples and information through the coffee quality program, overseeing the scheduling, execution, accurate documentation and feedback procedures.

What You Will Do
- Prepare and oversee daily sensory evaluation under the multi-site quality program structure.
- Execute monthly sensory program calibrations to ensure performance achieves established KPIs.
- Manage coordination of sensory evaluations/exercises, samples, and supplies with all relevant departments prepare for multiple activities on a regular basis.
- Record and communicate results to the plant management team.
- Assist in the development and execute on sensory panel calibration and continuous improvement.
- Perform additional testing and analysis as needed.
- Calibration and audit of Lab equipment including but not limited to grinders, Agtron.
- Responsible for the proper management of lab and supplies, maintain workspace and storage areas in clean, organized and safe manner.
- Manage and upkeep Controls Retention Library and additional documentation where required, i.e. SOPs.
- Provide sensory support and direction for quality issues and root cause investigations occurring in the roasting plant.
- Inclusion in various supply streams on product quality may be required, including but not limited to various process stages within the supply chain.
- Escalation (when necessary) of production issues if quality of product is impacted.
- Comply with GMP, PPE, and safety requirements necessary working in a food manufacturing facility
- Technical training related to sensory/quality assurance or laboratory experience, or a combination of both (1-2 yr. minimum).
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Food Science preferred, Associates Degree or equivalent with some food science/sensory experience is required.
- Familiar with food processing and the use of laboratory equipment including functionality and calibration (1-2 yr. minimum).
- Experience in the use of statistical process control (SPC), Design of Experiment (DOE).
- Ability to input, interpret, and report out on data collection using Windows and/or related computer programs.
- Strong planning and organization skills with strong interpersonal skills.
- Detail oriented and quality conscious individual.
