Responsibilities
Kaufman, Payton & Chapa concentrates its practice in commercial litigation, insurance litigation, regulatory law and corporate law. The firm counsels clients in the areas of professional liability, dramshop, premises liability, employment and no-fault law. We are seeking an attorney with 5+ years of litigation experience to manage cases from inception through trial.
Kaufman, Payton & Chapa serves both as legal advocates and counselors for a distinguished roster of clients that includes local, national, and international companies in insurance, health care, manufacturing, finance, real estate, government, retail, and recreation.
Our experienced attorneys practice preventive law, conducting extensive legal audits to uncover areas of our clients' businesses that may be vulnerable to litigation. Action plans are then developed to help avert legal problems, allowing our clients to better meet their business objectives.
When litigation is unavoidable, we strive to keep costs at a minimum and to achieve results expeditiously. Our attorneys represent clients in both routine and complex litigation before administrative agencies, at trial and on appeal before state and federal courts.

- Handle individual docket and work with other attorneys in the firm
- Deal directly with insurance adjusters and clients
- Handle depositions and court appearances
- Write briefs at trial and appellate court levels
- Handle cases in state and federal courts
- J.D. required and admission to the bar; prior experience practicing law, litigation experience preferred
- Knowledge of Property/Casualty insurance industry a plus
- Excellent organizational and project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to find creative solutions on diverse matters requiring complex legal and strategic analysis
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Portable client base preferred
