A Land Development Planner is a professional responsible for overseeing the planning, design, and development of land for various purposes, including residential, commercial, industrial, and public use. Their primary role is to ensure that land use and development projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, while also meeting the needs of the community.

Some of the typical job responsibilities of a Land Development Planner may include:

  • Conducting research and analyzing data to identify suitable land for development.
  • Reviewing and evaluating proposals for land use and development projects.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, including government officials, developers, engineers, and community members, to gather input and feedback on proposed projects.
  • Developing plans and policies for land use and development, including zoning and subdivision regulations.
  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate project plans and proposals to stakeholders.
  • Reviewing and approving building permits and site plans for compliance with regulations and guidelines.
  • Managing project budgets and timelines, including overseeing the work of consultants and contractors.
  • Monitoring and assessing the environmental impact of development projects.
  • Ensuring that development projects are designed to be sustainable and environmentally responsible.
  • Keeping up-to-date with changes in regulations, policies, and best practices related to land use and development.

To be successful in this role, a Land Development Planner should have a degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, or a related field. They should also have strong analytical and communication skills, as well as knowledge of local zoning and land use regulations. Additionally, experience in project management, budgeting, and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in Planning preferred
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Experience working in land development
  • Proficient with AutoCAD & Related Software (Civil 3D)
  • Experience as a team lead
