Opportunity

For the last 100 years, our engines, generators and UPS products have powered homes, hospitals, lawn mowers, stadiums, and everything in-between. The Manager, Electronics – Advanced Development will be responsible for evaluating and developing power conversion technologies that connect energy storage, alternate power generation methods including fuel cells and solar, inverter hardware, inverter software, and high-level system control. This position will also be responsible for providing advanced algorithms focused on improving product performance and reliability.

  • Develop a roadmap of research and technology projects in power conversion and advanced algorithms
  • Lead technology investigations by setting system level requirements and guiding, managing, and motivating a team of technical experts.
  • Challenge your team technically, develop innovative solutions, and help your team generate novel solutions.
  • Provide technical expertise and engineering support on high complexity projects.
  • Develop system level power conversion topologies using Simulink and MATLAB with a focus on DC-DC and bidirectional DC-AC control.
  • Design and implement feedback and model predictive control algorithms to meet performance and robustness requirements.
  • Lead hardware and software architects to develop full system models and leverage autocode generation for concept validation.
  • Drive communication with marketing and NPD teams to capture the voice of the customer and create unique solutions.
  • Develop internal intellectual property (IP) ensuring robustness and alignment to business unit objectives in power generation, energy conversion technology and advanced algorithms. space. Advise management team on strength of supplier, partner, and competitive IP.
  • Identify, participate and influence within university, government, and commercial consortiums focused on energy space to ensure awareness of R&D incentives, future legislation, and technical and safety standard developments.

Skills/Requirements

Skills/Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering Required.Master’s Degree preferred
  • 7+ years’ work experience dependent on educational background
  • 3+ years’ experience in power conversion hardware and controls systems at or greater than kilowatt scale
  • 2+ years’ experience in personnel leadership
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink including model-based code development, validation hardware testing and troubleshooting

Preference To Those Who Have The Following

  • Familiarity with a wide array of power generation and battery storage technologies
  • Familiarity with electric machine design and control: permanent magnet and wound rotor
  • Excellent quantitative and qualitative analytical skills

The salary range for this position is $122,750 - $156,850. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s experience, their education, and the work location. Available benefits include medical, dental, vision & 401k.
