Under general supervision, provides a variety of clerical support services in support of Revenue Collection and Third Party Billing at the Muckleshoot Health and Wellness Center. Work assignments are moderately complex and require a person to have previous Third Party Billing and Revenue experience.

  • Communicates both written and verbally, with internal and external customers and staff, in a professional manor and with a good understanding of the claims and revenue process.
  • Adheres to the policies and procedures on confidentiality and HIPAA.
  • Performs duties in accordance to the clinic/billing policies set by the Health and Wellness Center (HWC).
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures within the clinic.
  • Prepares and enters information and charges generated by Medical, Dental, Optical and Behavioral Health Clinics within the Muckleshoot Health and Wellness Center (HWC).
  • Stays informed and maintains an understanding of the role of Registration, and how the data they enter will impact the claims processing and why accuracy is very important.
  • Works with and maintains knowledge of multiple software programs used to generate charges and accounts receivable within HWC.
  • Positively participates and collaborates in department and/or team meetings.
  • Researches and performs web-based searches for data and information.
  • Resolves issues/concerns with payers.
  • Represents the MIT Health Program in a positive and professional manner when interacting with patients and the community.
  • Able to understand and communicate internal and external processes to internal and external customers and may have to deal with sensitive situations.
  • Able to read and understand Third Party provider manuals, and state and federal billing guidelines.
  • According to established policies and prescribed guidelines, control the proper maintenance, archiving, release, and destruction of vital records, exhibits and/or files that may impose severe consequences on the Tribe if mishandled.
  • Establish, maintain, verify, code, modify, track and/or retrieve information and compile data that may require information searches through files, contracts, policies, claims or computer files.
  • Perform moderate numerical calculations involving accounts receivable, and able to reconciling claim charges.
  • May generate responses to internal and/or external customers addressing complaints, concerns and problems of a controversial and sensitive nature that must be treated with a high degree of discretion, requiring a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter.
  • May be assigned to orientate and train other employees and at times make presentations.
  • May attend and take notes at meetings.
  • Because of the Tribe’s commitment to community service and the well-being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time. Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.


Graduation from a high school or equivalent. Have at least 2 years of work or education in the Medical Billing and Collections field is required.

Knowledge of General office principles and practices, computer software applications relative to the position assignment, basic accounting and mathematics, conflict resolution techniques, operation of standard office equipment such as personal computer, copier, fax machines and multi-line telephone, program specific information, terminology and/or equipment.

Skilled in keyboarding (speed required may vary according to position assignment), analysis and problem-solving, oral and written communication, including making presentations, organization and time management, customer service -- in person and via telephone (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism), interpersonal and human relations, following oral and written instructions, working both independently and as part of a team, prioritizing workload and adapting to changes in work load demands, providing training, maintaining confidentiality, following through on assignments as directed, conducting research on a specific work assignment.

Ability to Adhere to safety policies and procedures within the clinic; file reports; follow OSHA and safety guidelines; establish and maintain positive working relationships.
