Position Summary
The associate merchant position is a multi-faceted position that is vital to each merchant division in the company. It is multi-functional; the candidate must be prepared to handle a multitude of responsibilities reaching to most areas of the company including marketing, IT, visual, finance, store operations and merchandising.

Position Summary
The associate merchant position is a multi-faceted position that is vital to each merchant division in the company. It is multi-functional; the candidate must be prepared to handle a multitude of responsibilities reaching to most areas of the company including marketing, IT, visual, finance, store operations and merchandising.
Key Responsibilities
- Must be assertive and ear to grow in an extremely fast paced organization.
- Maintain and manage category details, including but not limited to: item set up, replenishment POs, opening orders, price changes, UPC data, and item selection.
- Act as liaison between stores and vendors during new item releases, store set-up, and execution.
- Make recommendations and/or make independent decisions regarding vendor selection, terms/discount negotiation, and subsequent decisions with merchant.
- Evaluate item/category performance and make recommendations based on Seasonal Planning and analysis.
- Effectively resolve issues related to vendors, stores, and customers.
- Work cohesively with category merchant to determine product plans and future buying decisions.
- Responsible for assisting merchant with promotional strategies and vendor management in all product areas.
- Assist merchant in merchandising new and existing stores.
- In many cases, the associate merchant must assume merchant responsibility for a particular category or vendor within the department.
- Responsible for managing initial set up and delivery of purchase orders with vendors. Negotiate for concessions when PO’s are not delivered in a timely manner or incomplete
- Recommending markdowns, RTV’s, transfer requests to merchant for slow selling items. Monitor age of inventory standards.
- Analysis of best sellers to maximize items and/or re-orders/fill-ins.
- Partner with visual merchants to determine plan-o-gram, space allocation, floor sets, vendor shop installation, and key seasonal sets.
- Education: The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a G.E.D. or high school diploma. College degree preferred.
- Experience: One to two (1-2) years of experience in retail merchandising/buying experience preferred.
- Must be able to work independently, be self-motivated, as well as a strong team player.
- Communication: Strong listening and interpersonal skills. Must possess good verbal, written and visual communication skills. Must feel comfortable communicating through phone calls and emails as well as speaking in front of groups.
- Organizational: Must be detail oriented, able to prioritize and multitask.
- Analytical : Must have a strong ability to analyze data for decision making.
- Problem Solving: Possess the necessary negotiating skills working with vendors.
- Computer: Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Partnership: Must be able to work well in a team environment.
- This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
- Must be willing to travel when required.
- Flexible schedule and willing to work nights and weekends when needed.
- Physical Requirements: Office and store environments, occasional lifting up to 30lbs.
