Under immediate supervision performs routine technical and responsible skilled work in the operation and maintenance of sewage treatment plant equipment.
Must have a valid North Carolina's driver license. A math test must be scheduled and taken by the applicant. Possession or ability to obtain a valid Grade II Wastewater Operator certificate from the State of North Carolina required. Shift work required.Â
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Â Must be able to lift or move up to 50 lbs. and maneuver up to 1 mile; must be able to operate light and medium equipment; work with large and small objects. This position will work outdoors and may be exposed to changing weather, adverse smells and sights, loud sounds and repetitive operations.
THIS POSITION IS "NON-EXEMPT"AND IS ELIGIBLE FOR OVERTIME.
Hard-To-Fill Sign-On Incentive
This position has been designated by the City Manager as hard-to-fill and eligible for a one-time sign-on incentive. Please refer to the Hard-To-Fill Sign-On Incentive Policy for additional information and eligibility rules.
- Makes regular tours of plant and checks engines, generators, pumps, aerators, settling tanks, digesters, filters, clarifiers and other equipment for proper functioning.
- Records readings from meters and blowers, valves and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions.
- Bleeds gas liners; collects samples of raw sewage, primary treatment effluent and grit for laboratory analysis.
- Performs specific laboratory tests; skims grease from settling tanks; pumps sludge; cleans bar screens; disposes of sand, trash, and rags; cleans and services pumps, motors and other equipment.
- Makes minor or emergency repairs; reports defects to maintenance personnel; substitutes for senior operator in his/her absence.
