About The Position
The Homeless Services Assistant collaborates with local agencies and community partners to deliver essential support and resources to individuals experiencing homelessness. Key responsibilities include grant management, conducting homeless counts, data analysis, and assisting with Continuum of Care planning.
We are looking for someone with
 Knowledge of:   Â
 Skills inÂ
High School diploma or G.E.D.Â
    AND
Three (3) years of increasingly responsible administrative support, accounting/financial recordkeeping, legal, human resources, or secretarial experience. Â
  Â
Possession of an Associate's Degree is highly desirable.
Experience in Housing and/or Homeless Services is highly desirable.Â
Licenses, Certifications, And Equipment

- Good judgement:Â Â Consistently demonstrates sound decision-making skills by interpreting and applying City and department policies effectively.Â
- Experience in Office Administration: Has thorough knowledge of office practices, including organizing files, managing records, and ensuring confidentiality in sensitive situations.Â
- People Skills: Communicates clearly and effectively with a welcoming, professional, and compassionate demeanor, especially when dealing with sensitive situations.Â
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 products:Â Uses word processing, spreadsheets, and databases to create documents, manage projects, and perform routine calculations accurately.Â
- Serve as the initial point of contact, managing calls, visitors, and mail while providing information on regulations and procedures.
- Address complaints and inquiries, conducting research to deliver accurate assistance to the homeless population.
- Research, compile, and organize information on relevant topics in homeless services; generate reports and documentation.
- Review applications and permits, process payments, and maintain accurate records.
- Manage departmental calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate travel arrangements for staff.
 Knowledge of:   Â
- Office administration and management practices and procedures.
- Principles and practices of sound business communication, including correct English usage.Â
- Familiarity with city organization, functions, rules, policies, and procedures relevant to assigned responsibilities.
- Advanced skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
- Understanding of financial and accounting recordkeeping practices and city administrative policies related to budget and public records.
 Skills inÂ
- Operate standard office software and equipment, ensuring accurate and efficient typing to meet position requirements
- Organize and prioritize tasks while exercising sound judgment in accordance with City and department policies.Â
- Interpret and apply policies to make informed decisions and maintain comprehensive office and specialized files. Â policies and procedures.
- Communicate clearly and effectively in English and a designated second language, both orally and in writing.
- Provide excellent customer service to the homeless population while maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive situations with tact and discretion.

The City offers an attractive compensation and benefit package, that includes:
- Retirement - Participation in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Classic members with less than 6 months separation: CalPERS 2% at 55, single highest year plan. New members, CalPERS 2% at 62, three highest year average plan.
- Health Insurance - Monthly contribution of $715.00 (Employee Only), $1,377.00 (Employee plus one), or $1,841.00 (Employee plus Family) for health, dental and vision premiums. Eligible employees who waive all medical, dental, vision, supplemental life, and supplemental AD&D benefits will receive an annual "Health Insurance Waiver Stipend" of $4,000.00 every first paycheck of December.
- Leave - Vacation beginning at 80 hours after one year, 96 hours of sick leave annually, 13 holidays, plus 18 hours of floating holiday time.Â
- Life & Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance - The City provides Term Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance.
