Job Purpose
Under limited supervision within the Office of Professional Standards, Training and Certification area, serves as the lead for training and curriculum development needs for the agency. Responsible for development and coordination of staff development and training programs for agency staff with special emphasis on ensuring compliance and standards are identified and met. Assists in the training of other direct care staff in the agency as needed or required; Assists in conducting needs assessments and other quality assurance measures as necessary.
Job Responsibilities
Designs and develops training curricula, lesson plans, and related materials focusing on performance and promoting an effective learning environment.
Develops and designs curriculum applying instructional design learning methods, strategies, modalities, and delivery methods.
Evaluates existing curriculums and help integrate or adapt new technology into digital formats.
Responsible for monitoring training delivery to ensure compliance with standards.
Conducts thorough assessments of current curricula and training materials, identifying areas for improvement and enhancement.
Documents quality assurance activities, creates audit reports, reviews formal and informal training evaluations, and makes recommendations for improvement based on research and best practices.
Administers written and practical assessments to evaluate trainees' performance.
Communicates expectations and provides feedback to assist employees with performance improvement, professional development, and skills/competency development.
Reads, analyzes, and interprets the SCDJJ policy manual.
Writes content, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills.
Effectively presents information and responds to questions.
Conducts training and staff development needs assessments by collecting information and data related to training staff.
Delivers Security and Operation Basic Training to all newly hired employees.
Delivers yearly re-certification training for the Security & Operations and Community Services Division.
Obtains and maintains training certifications for Safe Crisis Management, First Aid, and other mandatory training.
Stays informed of trends in instructional methods and educational technology.
Performs Other Related Job Duties As Assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements
A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.
Additional Requirements
Requires knowledge of applicable training principles and practices, especially pertaining to adult learners which is necessary for effective curriculum development.
Knowledge of research methods and techniques for the development of lesson plans and curricula for conducting formal and informal training sessions.
Ability to conduct conferences, lead discussion grounds, stimulate participants in the learning process.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to analyze training and development needs.
Knowledge of juvenile justice system required.
Works closely with the training division managers to develop, plan, deliver, and coordinate all trainings for assigned area.
Works effectively under general supervision having scheduled performance reviews (EPMS) in accordance with agency policy and other training quality assurance checks.
Employee must have professional interaction with internal/external customers.
Employee must be able to work in an environment with incarcerated youth without restrictions.
Ability to be mobile with limited sedentary duties.
This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with youth within the jurisdiction of the Department of Juvenile Justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
Routine travel throughout the state possible.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:
A bachelor's degree and five years of experience with instructional design, curriculum development or related field. Experience conducting employee training and curriculum development experience preferred w/ experience in Learning Management Systems (LMS).
Special Requirement:S uccessful completion of the agency's Training of Trainers within nine months of hire and other applicable certifications as required.
