ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE INTERN | JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

At Magnolia, internships serve as opportunities for students and new professionals to gain experience in various fields by contributing their skills and expertise toward achieving organizational goals. Interns will be assigned to one department for the duration of the semester, and specific projects or tasks will be determined per departmental need.  Interns work from various Magnolia locations in Waco, Texas. The Accounting and Finance Intern reports to the Corporate Controller and has no supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

ESS ENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help with the preparation of financial statements, departmental BVAs, and other accounting documents
  • Participate in the month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Perform basic financial and variance analysis
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling projects
  • Complete special projects or research assignments as requested by Finance Director and Corporate Controller
  • Provide administrative support to the A ccounting and Finance team as needed
  • Complete projects or tasks as instructed by internship supervisor
  • Participate in internship group development and service opportunities throughout semester
  • Collaborate with team members and key stakeholders to determine the priority and process of assignments 
  • Ensure that projects are on track for correct execution within required deadlines 
  • Hold all sensitive information with the strictest confidence 
  • Communicate effectively across multiple teams to ensure a cohesive goal is achievable   
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Hard skills : Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required . C omprehensive understanding of financial statements and the accounting relationships among them preferred .

Eligibility Qualifications

  • Must be a college junior or senior, graduate student, or recent graduate (up to two years post grad ) preferably working toward a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience using NetSuite accounting software and Workday Adaptive Insights planning tool preferred
  • Must be available to work 15-25 hours weekly for the duration of the internship program

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands and arms to reach, handle, feel; utilize fine motor dexterity of fingers; talk or hear and taste or smell.  The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate .
