The Folsom Parks & Recreation Department is hiring multiple part-time Recreation Leader II - Youth Sports Officials: Flag Football to join the Sports Division.Â

Under direct or general supervision of a Recreation Supervisor, this part-time position is responsible for the research, planning, development, and curation of the professional art gallery and community art gallery. Â Â

Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator and site leaders, youth sports officials work to initiate game play, enforce rules while cultivating a positive culture, and advocating for the program. Under general supervision, sports officials act as referees utilizing current rules and regulations for youth flag football.

Location

This position location can vary but is based at the Andy Morin Sports Complex.

Schedule

  • Duration: position is ongoing as long as needed and supported by the budget.Â
  • Flexible and scheduled as needed, generally less than 20 hours per week.Â
  • Must be available to work nights, weekends, and holidays.Â

Pay & Benefits

  • Non-exemptÂ
  • Part-time positions are hourly and not eligible for benefits, and are limited to working 999 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). No full-time regular appointment will be made from this class. Â

Note:Â Unfortunately current active CalPERS Â members are ineligible for employment with part-time positions.

  • Officiate for the youth flag football league; determining play methods and interpreting and enforcing game rules.Â
  • Maintains knowledge of youth flag football rules and regulations.Â
  • Preserve order and implement safety procedures for participants and spectators during the games.Â
  • Ensure that the game fields and equipment are in proper and safe playing condition.

NOTE:Â The level and scope of the following knowledge and abilities are related to duties listed under the "Examples of Essential Duties" section of this specification.

Knowledge of

  • Basic understanding of youth flag football sports rules.Â

Ability to

  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and pace duties and tasks.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with coworkers and the public.
  • Ability to demonstrate enthusiasm, positive energy, and maturity.

Education

High school diploma or G.E.D. or work permit, some college preferred.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire date.

Previous experience scorekeeping and knowledge of sports is desirable

License, Certificate, Registration Requirements

Some positions may require possession of, or the ability to obtain and retain, a California Class C driver license by the time of appointment. Â Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Physical Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, stooping, and crouching. Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Perform repetitive hand, arm and body movements continuously. Regular public and coworker contact, occasional working alone.

Persons in this class are subject to a background check, which requires DOJ fingerprint clearance.
