Primary Objective

Provide community coordination and leadership for implementing the State Health Improvement Partnership (SHIP), which serves the cities of Bloomington, Edina, and Richfield, to fulfill the agency’s mission to engage the community in promoting, protecting, and improving the health of all.

Examples of Duties

Essential Duties

  • Engage diverse stakeholders in identifying and addressing needs related to social determinants of health and chronic disease prevention. Collaborate with various community-based organizational leadership in the three communities of Bloomington, Edina, and Richfield to influence policy, system, and environmental (PSE) change as informed by SHIP initiatives
  • Provide project management and technical assistance to community partners for health promotion efforts in the areas of healthy food access, childcare, housing, mental well-being, active living, healthcare access, and workplace wellness
  • Collaborate with various departmental staff (transportation, community development, planning, parks and recreation, public safety, and public health) and community partners in the three communities of Bloomington, Edina, and Richfield to develop a vision and action plan for completing the SHIP work plan across the three cities
  • Create educational materials, reports, and plans to support programs and advance the work of SHIP
  • Practice authentic community engagement and facilitate grassroots prevention efforts within the community
  • Prepare and deliver presentations on community health to various audiences using plain language
  • Develop and facilitate trainings, and lead community gatherings and workgroups to engage activities and initiatives
  • Contribute to and do stakeholder assessments to inform SHIP work, including community assessments, focus groups, and key informant interviews
  • Communicate with elected officials and the community at large concerning prevention efforts and initiatives
  • Work with the SHIP Coordinator to develop and continually update program or project plans, timelines, and deliverables

    Minimum/Desirable Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Baccalaureate degree in public or community health, nutrition, public policy, nursing, or related field AND six months or more work experience in public health; OR two years of experience working as a certified community health worker related to childcare, healthy schools, and workplaces, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle
    • Experience in participatory decision-making and/or consensus-building techniques
    • Experience developing trusted partnerships across sectors and within organizations
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and online collaboration applications
    • Ability and willingness to travel locally to meet in-person with community members and organizations
    • Excellent interpersonal skills, networking skills, and organizational skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
    • Ability to work independently and with a team
    • Ability to work flexible daytime hours, occasional evenings, and weekends
    • Experience working with diverse communities and populations of people (such as BIPOC communities, economically disadvantaged communities, etc.)
    • Ability to apply principles of health and racial equity, and cultural humility to community-based work

    Desirable Qualifications

    • Experience advocating for marginalized stakeholder groups within institutional settings
    • An advanced degree or certificate in public health, community health, nutrition, public policy, nursing, or a closely related field
    • Additional experience working in the public health sector for a state, county, or municipal government
    • Experience with SHIP or state-funded grant projects
    • Experience working in a policymaking setting, such as within a local or state government or for a non-governmental organization that does policymaking/advocacy
    • Experience integrating diverse initiatives and social determinants of health into service delivery
    • Experience working with policy, systems, and environmental change initiatives
    • Experience facilitating meetings, public speaking, and presenting
    • Ability to speak a second language, in addition to English, that has a recognized presence in the community (Spanish, Somali, Vietnamese, etc.)

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $81,890-$84,323

    2024 Full Salary Range: $81,890-$109,171 Annually
