Under general direction, Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program research, planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.

The position acts under direct supervision of the Game Division Administrator to develop, implement, and monitor predator management programs. Specifically, this position's primary function is to implement Nevada State Assembly Bill 70 which, through NRS 502.253, identifies two main tasks including: a) developing and implementing an annual program for the lethal removal of predatory wildlife; and b) developing and implementing an annual program for the improvement of wildlife habitat and research or management activities beneficial to nonpredatory game species.

Coordination with field staff, USDA - Wildlife Services (or other qualified contractors), fellow Wildlife Staff Specialists, and other interested stakeholders is essential. All aspects of project design, implementation, monitoring, analysis, and presentation will be required. This position is responsible for compiling a list of proposed projects to be presented within the annual predator management plan and is also responsible for summarizing predator management activities in an annual report of project results and expenditures for a program of approximately $700k annually. This position requires experience in the application of predator control for the protection or enhancement of wildlife populations. Primary beneficiaries of predator management activities include but are not limited to mule deer, bighorn sheep, antelope, and sage grouse. Those with experience in coyote, mountain lion, or raven predation as they relate to mule deer, bighorn, sage-grouse respectively as well as black bear ecology and management are encouraged to apply. To Qualify

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations related to wildlife management; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
