Position Summary: Children’s Aid’s The P2 Project (The Pregnancy Prevention Project) aims to reduce and prevent the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in Children’s Aid’s priority areas in NYC by providing young people with the holistic tools to meet their greatest potentials through evidence-based sexuality education, comprehensive reproductive health services, and peer health education. The main objectives of the program are:
Essential Duties:
Children’s Aid will conduct a prompt and thorough investigation of all allegations of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, or any violation of the Equal Employment Opportunity Policy in a confidential manner and will take appropriate corrective action, if and where warranted. The incumbent is expected to work a schedule, whether in-person or hybrid, as determined by the department's needs to facilitate effective collaboration with the team. The main objectives of the program are:
- Provide comprehensive, age appropriate, sexuality health education for adolescents (ages 11 – 22).
- Provide strategies for young people to make healthy decisions and set goals for the future.
- Connect youth to reproductive health services.
- Encourage youth/adult partnerships and effective communication.
- Create and foster community and organizational partnerships to reduce the incidence of unintended adolescent pregnancy in our communities.
Essential Duties:
- Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures.
- Establish collaborative relationships with CA staff and staff at other agencies to develop and implement recruitment and engagement strategies for their adolescents.
- Schedule and facilitate educational sessions for youth and staff in CA Programs, NYC DOE schools, and other community-based organizations.
- Evaluate, update, and maintain curricula and workshops on pregnancy prevention and reproductive health topics utilizing best practices for engagement of adolescents and evidence-based curricula.
- Facilitate the referral of sexually active youth identified through the program to family planning services provided at CA family planning health centers.
- Monitor and track the outcomes of all referrals for family planning services.
- Recruit, interview, train, and retain peer educators in the Pregnancy Prevention Project programs.
- Collaborate with staff members and organizational partners on peer education recruitment and training.
- Coordinate and oversee JAM peer activities.
- Provide one-on-one health education at Family Planning Clinic sites, as needed.
- Oversee planning and implementation of annual outreach events.
- Collect, enter, and maintain accurate data related to program activities.
- Submit monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of the activities and outcomes of the Family Planning Outreach & Education Program.
- Represent the agency at health fairs and other outreach events, as needed.
- Attend professional development trainings.
- Must abide by privacy laws, including HIPAA, etc.
- Ability to travel to multiple sites and to work flexible hours, including some evenings and Saturdays.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- A Bachelor’s Degree in health education, public administration, social work, or a related field with 3-4 years of experience working with adolescents and reproductive health education; in lieu of a degree, 6-7 years of experience in youth development and sexual health education.
- Familiarity with full-cycle recruiting.
- Solid understanding of labor legislation and payroll process.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good problem-solving abilities.
- Efficient Team management skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of constituents from multiple sectors and with varied lived experiences.
- Bilingual English/Spanish a plus.
- Computer literate.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, including the ability to offer, receive, and respond professionally to feedback on drafts of written documents and other products.
