Housing Works fights for funding and legislation to ensure that all people living with HIV/AIDS have access to quality housing, healthcare, HIV prevention, and treatment, among other lifesaving services.

This position is included in a bargaining unit of Housing Works’ New York City employees represented by a labor union known as the Retail Wholesale and Department Store Union (“RWDSU”). Accordingly, the RWDSU has the exclusive right to bargain over the terms and conditions of employment related to this position and this position may become covered by the terms of a collective bargaining agreement (a “CBA”) between Housing Works and the RWDSU
Compensation Range: $17/hr - $20/hr commensurate with experience
Overview:
The Intake Specialist will be responsible for orienting new patients to the health center, conducting insurance verification, facilitating enrollment in insurance as needed, ensuring sliding fee scale status is up to date and accurate on a daily basis, conducting PRAPARE assessments, and assisting the Patient Care Coordinator with medical case management as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Complete PRAPARE Assessments for new patients, identify program eligibility for ADHC, OASAS, Health Home, OMH, PrEP, UND, HEP C, RAD and other programs, and track status of such.
- Track status of patient referred to various internal case management programs.
- Orient clients to health center services.
- Complete sliding scale application for uninsured/underinsured patients and upload required documents into electronic medical record.
- Ensure up to date status of sliding scale applications for patients on a daily and consistent basis.
- Help facilitate patient enrollment into insurance plan (including ADAP) via Marketplace and assist with entitlements.
- Assist clients with changing their insurance. Document administrative interventions in medical record.
- Maximize percentage of client alignment of their primary care provider with patients’ health plan.
- Participate in morning Huddle, regular staff meetings, etc.
- Supports and participates in advocacy efforts to end the twin crises of homelessness and AIDS.
- Assist providers with client needs that relate to Intake Specialist role.
- Collaborate with front desk staff on matters related to insurance, sliding fee scale status, and registration on day to day basis.
- Assist with patient registration process with professionalism and accuracy, as needed.
- Verifies insurance for every single visit unless uninsured, in which case, facilitating accurate sliding fee scale applications and documentation. Check Epaces and insurance portals as appropriate. Follow-up of all documents relating to sliding scale program.
- Ensure front desk staff remain active on insurance portals and utilize them for every appropriate patient transaction.
- Other duties and assisting with other roles as needed and as assigned by Clinic Director.

Job Requirements
- High School Diploma required; Associates Degree preferred.
- Must complete certified assistor training within Marketplace upon employment.
- The candidate must have knowledge in HIV/AIDS and entitlements.
- The candidate should be able to perform scripted assessments and demonstrate ability to discern emergencies and alert the appropriate personnel for assistance and support.
- Commitment to confidential and HIPAA regulations on requests for medical documents is required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail required.
- Skilled in interpersonal relationships with a culturally diverse population.
- Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
- Candidate must be willing to work on weekends and evenings, with advance notice.
- Must have experienced with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, and the Internet.
- Must possess a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential client information and situations.
- Must be willing to participate in advocacy events.
