Associate Director of Campus Recreation
Primary Duties
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree and 5 or more years of experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Current First Aid/ AED / CPR certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and 6 years related program experience. Has career advancement in Campus Recreation or related field. Has supervised full-time staff. Has experience with Facility Operations, including but not limited to working with Maintenance and Building Services (Custodial) staff, work orders, and preventative maintenance. Has experience with budget development and management. Has experience with project management, special events, and space management.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to develop and carry out assessment-related tasks, including data collection, survey tool development, data analysis, and written reports. Skilled with the development, implementation, and assessment of Student Development practices related to student employment. Has utilized management software (i.e., Fusion, DSE) and other operational software (i.e., Connect2, 25Live). Has operated facility-related technology (i.e., PCs, MACs) and audio-visual equipment. Has engaged with associated national organizations (i.e., NIRSA, NASPA, ACHA).

Environmental Health, Safety & Sustainability: Develop, implement and improve comprehensive programs that ensure the unit environment and community are safe and contribute to environmental conservation. Ensure proper handling of hazardous materials. Maintain compliance with applicable state and federal laws and regulations. Inspect student and employee work settings and provide guidance for improvement where necessary.

Student Enrichment: Support the development of students’ academic and personal goals. Provide opportunities for student engagement within the USC community through all phases of employment.

- Resolving conflicts or disagreements among team members and facilitating communication and collaboration.
- Making decisions and providing guidance on complex or ambiguous issues that may arise during day-to-day operations.
- Conducting performance evaluations and providing regular feedback to employees on their performance.

- Work with SAAS Human Resources to address performance issues or disciplinary matters as necessary.
- Serving as a liaison between upper management and frontline employees, relaying information, goals, and expectations effectively.
- Facilitating team meetings, discussions, and training sessions to ensure clear communication and understanding among team members.
- Listening to employee concerns, suggestions, and feedback and addressing them appropriately.
- Liaison with SAAS HR to ensure position descriptions are written accurately, ensure fair and equitable performance increases, and pay is equitable among employees. Supervise search committees and manage departmental onboarding for new hires, while also ensuring seamless offboarding processes for departing employees.
Business Operations
- Support academic and administrative units’ business operations including personnel management, fiscal operations, and coordination with multiple governing areas to ensure compliance.
- Aid in the attainment, monitoring, and control of external funding sources. Monitor budgets, agreements, grants and contracts for compliance and appropriate use of funds.
Building & Grounds Maintenance
- Responsible for the continuous care of the University’s facilities and grounds, ensuring safety, cleanliness and continued operability.
- Oversee the planning, execution, and completion of facility maintenance and improvement projects.
Event Management
- Responsible for planning, managing, and organizing functions and events.
- Obtain all necessary services and supplies.
- Secure appropriate facility space.
- Care for patrons from registration/invitation, through the event.
- Distribute, compile and analyze assessment.
