Job Purpose

Provides support for foster families and advocacy for children in out-of-home care. Responsibilities include interaction with foster and adoptive parents, children, and biological parents.

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide support and conduct regular home visits, a minimum of twice monthly, to foster families with 50% of time spent in direct service provision.
  • Maintain all client files in compliance with guidelines established by the Council on Accreditation and agency policies and procedures. Document all foster family and foster child contact within three days. Complete assessments and service plans to assist foster families in meeting the needs of children in care. Complete monthly reports by internal due dates and contracted deadlines.
  • Attend all court hearings, family team meetings, Foster Care Review Board meetings, treatment team meetings, and other meetings pertaining to assigned foster families and youth and maintain ongoing communication with all case professionals, including DHHS case managers and collaborating service providers.
  • Conduct supervised visits and sibling visits as needed.
  • Identify resource families for children referred for foster care placement.
  • Respond to emergencies as appropriate, including during evenings and weekends.
  • Participate in foster parent recruitment activities in the Omaha community.

Other Duties

  • Complete other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
  • Complete training necessary to perform position and necessary for professional growth.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred plus a minimum of 2 years of working with children and families in Human Services or related fields.
  • General knowledge about child development and child abuse and neglect preferred.
  • A minimum age of 21 years or older.
  • Ability to interact with clients and staff with sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics in the service population.

Vehicle Requirements

  • Own transportation that meets agency vehicle inspection requirements.
  • Valid driver’s license with no more than 6 points.
  • Proof of insurance.
  • Ability to complete a defensive driver training class.

Environment

  • The majority of work is a combination of office and community or home-based environments.
  • Hours/schedule will vary and will include evening and weekend hours

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to type and perform other office skills.
  • Ability to respond to on-call needs and work evenings and weekend hours as needed.
