Job Summary: The Laboratory Quality Coordinator ensures the effective implementation and ongoing management of the laboratory's quality management system (QMS). This position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing quality control programs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and facilitating continuous improvement processes. The coordinator will collaborate with laboratory staff, management, and external regulatory bodies to ensure accurate, safe, and reliable laboratory practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in a biological, physical, chemical science, or Medical Laboratory Science; and, clinical laboratory experience in hematology, chemistry, immunochemistry, microbiology and urinalysis.
  • Exercise a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion, and decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clinic staff, physicians, and the public.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize workload to meet established timelines and completion dates.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication.
  • Knowledge of clinical laboratory testing procedures and limitations defined by sample collection, handling and storage conditions.
  • Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions to establish and promote a safe work environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State Regulatory Compliance and Inspection Criteria; CLIA ’88, OSHA and HIPAA.
  • Knowledge of software used for development of documents, logs, spreadsheets; along with, Electronic Health Record and Laboratory Information System.
  • Ability to work independently; recognize problems and take action. Actively communicate problems/suggested resolution to Laboratory Services Supervisor/Director of Laboratory Services; and/or, vendor representative, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Quality Management System Oversight: Manage and coordinate the laboratory’s quality management system, ensuring it meets regulatory and accreditation standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, OSHA, etc).
  • Document Control: Oversee the creation, review, and revision of laboratory policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality documents to maintain compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Quality Control and Assurance: Monitor and assess laboratory quality control programs, including proficiency testing, error management, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date on regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Ensure laboratory operations align with relevant quality and safety standards.
  • Training and Education: Provide training to laboratory staff on quality management principles, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement practices. Participates in continuing education and the development of new skills to support success in position.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Compile and analyze quality metrics, trends, and performance data. Report findings to laboratory leadership and recommend improvement opportunities.
  • Risk Management: Work closely with laboratory personnel and external bodies to resolve quality issues and implement new quality processes.
