Job Summary

This posting is for a position within the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology under Principal Investigator Vaibhav Sahai. This position will focus on biorepository management of pancreatobiliary malignancies, preneoplastic lesions, and laboratory experiments using human samples.

This is the entry level position on the Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder. This position provides administrative and coordination support for multiple projects in the conduct of clinical research projects. This position may assist with study coordination but will not be assigned clinical trials independently. This position may provide coordination for clinical research projects such as registries, retrospective data reviews, studies in long-term follow-up, and other non-interventional studies.

Responsibilities*

The workload will be dedicated to human biospecimen management, including but not limited to; patient data collection, managing blood and tissue samples, deidentifying, processing, and delivering the samples to the proper lab. The employee will need to work with gastroenterology, surgery, interventional radiology, various clinics, and research labs to aid in the successful collection, distributing, and processing of human biospecimens.

Assisting in maintaining the weekly schedule; include running MiChart reports, identifying patients who qualify for the study, and consenting patients.

Supervision Received: This position receives direct supervision and reports directly to Faculty Principal Investigator.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school diploma or GED is necessary.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Associate degree in Health Science or equivalent combination of related education and experience is desirable.
  • An understanding of medical terminology, experience in a large complex health care setting, ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels, and knowledge of university policies and procedures is desirable.
  • Associate degree in biology, engineering, or biochemical sciences preferred. Senior undergraduate will also be considered.
  • Laboratory experience is preferred, but not required. Training will be provided for sterile technique, tissue culture, and biorepository management.
  • Experience with Microsoft word, excel, and PowerPoint are required.
  • A 2-year commitment is preferred.

Work Schedule

This position will be part-time (24 hours per week) or up to full-time with M-F hours that vary depending on need for the day. Hours can be discussed with supervisor as needed.
