Job Summary
The role of a Dental Coordinator centers on patient outreach, education, and advocacy to enhance access to dental care. It plays a vital role in improving access to oral healthcare. The Dental Coordinator will ensure individuals and families receive essential preventive and restorative dental services. The coordinator also supports the implementation of programs aimed at improving community access to quality dental care. The Dental Coordinator addresses barriers to oral health and promotes health equity, by collaborating with the dental team and other healthcare professionals.

Work is normally performed in a typical clinic office work environment (and, in some cases, telecommuting sites). The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Occasional travel to other Axis health centers and other occasional travel will be required.
Equipment: Frequently required to use repetitive motion of hands and feet to operate a computer keyboard, telephone, copier, and other office equipment for extended periods.
Sensory: Frequently required to read documents, written reports, and signage. Must be able to distinguish normal sounds with some background noise, as in answering the phone, interacting with staff etc. Must be able to speak clearly, understand normal communication, and be understood. Must be able to see clearly and have the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships to see objects where and as they actually are.
Cognitive: Must be able to analyze the information being received, count accurately, concentrate and focus on the given task, summarize the information being received, accurately interpret written data, synthesize information from multiple sources, write summaries as needed, interpret written or verbal instructions, and recognize social or professional behavioral cues.
Environmental Conditions: Frequent exposure to varied office (medical clinic/office) environments. Rare exposure to dust and loud noises.

Job Summary

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent. A certification in Dental Assisting is a plus.
- 1-2 years of experience in a dental or healthcare role is preferred.
- Knowledge of dental terminology and proficiency in dental management software (e.g. Epic Wisdom) is a plus. Must have good computer skills using Microsoft Office and the ability to use Axis departmental systems.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge and understanding of oral health care practices and patient advocacy principles.
- Strong analytical, employee relations, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent writing, business communication, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Ability to interact effectively and in a supportive manner with persons of all backgrounds.
- Proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently as well as on a team with the ability to exercise sound independent judgment.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and a professional demeanor and must positively represent the organization at all times.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive and professional working relationships.
- Must be able to adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
- Must be able to be at work regularly and on time.

- Assist in coordinating and scheduling patient appointments to maximize efficiency and ensure effective time management for the dental team.
- Act as a point of contact for patient inquiries, follow-ups, and appointment reminders.
- Maintain accurate and updated patient records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with dental practitioners to schedule treatment plans, follow-ups, and procedures, ensuring that patient care is streamlined.
- Work closely with dental assistants, hygienists, dentists' healthcare providers, and administrative staff to coordinate daily operations, optimize patient flow, and to integrate oral health with overall patient care.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, and local agencies to support and promote oral health initiatives.
- Participate in health fairs, community events, and dental education workshops.
- Provide culturally appropriate oral health education to individuals and groups on topics such as proper brushing, flossing, and the importance of routine dental check-ups.
- Assist patients in overcoming barriers to dental care, such as transportation, financial concerns, or language challenges.
- Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, patient interactions, and educational sessions.
- Collect and report data on oral health outcomes and community engagement efforts.
- Work closely with dentists, dental hygienists, and healthcare providers to integrate oral health with overall patient care
- Participate in staff meetings, and attend other meetings and training events as assigned.
- May be required to perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned.
