A position has opened for an Unoccupied Aircraft Systems (UAS) Specialist at the University of Vermont Spatial Analysis Laboratory. The role involves designing and implementing UAS data collection, processing, and analytical solutions to meet various research objectives. Responsibilities include creating UAS training materials, managing project proposals, and developing technical solutions for UAS integration into the National Airspace System.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field.
- Two years of experience as Pilot-In-Command for Group 1 and Group 2 UAS.
- FAA 14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification with valid sUAS rating.
- Three or more years of geospatial experience with university-level coursework.
- Experience with UAS sensors (RGB, multispectral, thermal, and LiDAR) and data processing workflows.
- Proficiency with UAS flight control software, data processing software, and geospatial software packages.
- Knowledge of UAS and geospatial technology principles and trends.
- Experience in curriculum development and instruction of sUAS operations.
- Knowledge of UAS for disaster response and the FEMA Incident Command System.
- Certifications from FEMA IS-00100.c, IS-00200.c, IS-00700.b, and IS-00800.d or ability to obtain them.
- Valid driver’s license and UVM Authorized Driver certification or ability to obtain.
- CPR, First Aid, and/or Wilderness First Aid/Responder certification or ability to obtain.

- Bargaining unit position with a 4-month probationary period for external candidates.
