The Treasure Valley Family YMCA’s Child Development programs support children in their ongoing growth to ensure that they are ready for the next educational milestone, whether that be preschool, kindergarten, middle school, or high school.
The School Age Teacher is responsible for creating an environment with a teaching team that promotes each child’s development and supports children and their family’s diverse needs and interest.
Schedule: This is a part-time position averaging 15 hours per week. Schedule requirements are Monday through Wednesday, 2:15pm until 6:15pm.
Rate of Pay is $15.15/hour.
Responsibilities:
- Create an environment that fosters safety through active supervision and by role modeling safe behavior.
- Nurture children through purposeful programs dedicated to building relationships, achievement, and belonging.
- Develop intentional relationships and maintain effective daily communication with participants and parents.
- Implement the established curriculum that achieves the five Cause Measurement goals.
- Use positive behavior guidance techniques to support children’s appropriate development and behavior.
- Monitor and ensure the health and safety of participants, families, staff, and volunteers by following and implementing Child Development Branch approved Leading Practices.
- Use Y Core Values, developmentally appropriate practices, and effective teaching strategies to support each child’s unique background, needs, and different learning styles.
- Maintain an indoor and outdoor environment that is well equipped, organized, safe, clean, and welcoming. The environment is created based on the belief that all children learn best through play, positive adult interaction, and hands-on open-ended experiences.
Qualifications:
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- Minimum 1 year working with children is preferred.
- Must be able to engage others in conversations and make all people feel welcome.
- Ability to respond calmly and quickly to safety and emergency situations.
- Must have good interpersonal and communications skills and be sensitive, adaptable, professional, and articulate when dealing with others.
