Summer School Functional Life Skills Instructional Assistant

Professional Day and Orientation: July 1, 2, and 3 (3rd is ½ day only)
Program Dates: July 7, 2025 - August 1, 2025

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist individuals or groups of students with classroom activities under the guidance and direction of a teacher.
Assist with classroom and behavior management plans under teacher guidance and direction.
Collaborate with school staff, related service providers, student services staff, and families.
Perform other tasks as assigned by teacher, site-administrator, or coordinator.
EXPERIENCE:
Experience working with children from diverse backgrounds.
One year working with students who have disabilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from high school or equivalent education; and
- 60 college credits from a regionally accredited college/university; or
- A qualifying score on the ParaPro (455 or better).
Preferred:
Reliable, dependable, flexible, and punctual.
Flexible and willing to work as a team.
Knowledge of the needs of students with disabilities.
Ability to take initiative appropriately.

SALARY:
Summer School Assistants who are APS employees during the year will be paid Hourly rate or $16.68/hr., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS Assistants will be paid $25.68 per hour. Non-APS Assistants will be paid $16.68 per hour.
