Speedway Motors is seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our accounting team. This key leadership role requires strong technical accounting skills, leadership abilities, and deep expertise in Microsoft Dynamics Business Central to drive financial excellence and efficiency.

Job Overview
The Controller will oversee the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and efficient management of the accounting process. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will play a pivotal role in optimizing our use of Dynamics Business Central, ensuring seamless financial processes, and contributing to strategic decision-making. Here are the specifics:
Financial Management:
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (e.g., GAAP) and regulatory requirements
- Monitor the company’s financial health by tracking expenses and identifying areas for cost management and reduction
Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy
- Ensure compliance with tax laws, audits, and other financial regulations
- Prepare for and support internal and external audits
Cost Accounting Lead:
- Collecting and analyzing data about a company’s operational costs
- Setting standard costs of manufactured goods
- Developing and analyzing cost standards
- Carrying out cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis
Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and identify training needs
- Collaborate with the CFO to align team goals with organizational objectives
Systems & Process Improvement:
- Oversee the maintenance and optimization of accounting systems and software
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting
- Evaluate new tools and technologies to streamline accounting workflows
Strategic Support:
- Partner with the CFO to provide financial insights and recommendations to senior leadership
- Support other business divisions with accounting needs
- Participate in cross-departmental projects and initiatives requiring financial input
Other:
- Constantly work to improve processes; make suggestions for productivity improvements, and optimize team member workflow, while continuing to meet our customers’ needs

Work Environment
This position will be required to be in the office with the potential to be hybrid in the future.
What you’ll need to succeed in this position:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred)
- Proficiency in accounting software Dynamics Business Central and advanced Excel skills
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
- Experience managing AR and AP functions in a mid-to-large-sized organization
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage and develop teams
