Nestled in San Francisco's Excelsior neighborhood on a nine-acre campus, the San Francisco Campus for Jewish Living (SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care, including the Frank Residences for assisted living and memory care; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center for long-term skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation; and the Jewish Home and Senior Living Foundation.

What you’ll do as a Server:

  • Set tables and maintain workstations in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Take orders, provide service, and requested items graciously and courteously.
  • Clear dishes from tables during and after meal service and re-set table.
  • Answer questions about menu items.
  • Report all issues or concerns to the manager.
  • Deliver all food items to table.
  • Assist in plating and portion controls of appetizers, salads, soup, beverages, and dessert.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service for residents and their guests.
  • Maintain safe and sanitary conditions in work areas and follow all safety and sanitation rules.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene and comply with dress code.
  • Complete all assigned cleaning tasks.
  • Attend in-service training and education sessions as assigned.
  • Welcome and acknowledge all residents and their guests.
  • Anticipate and address guests' service needs.
  • Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards.
  • Complete closing duties, including vacuuming carpets, refilling sugar caddies, and ensuring table and chairs are straight.
  • Assist food runner in bringing food from kitchen.
  • May attend resident association and food committee meetings for feedback.
  • Help Dining Room Manager when needed.
  • Assist in other areas in food service as needed.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of table/seat/station numbers, room capacity, hours of operation, and proper table setups.
  • Consistently keep the dining room organized and clean.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

For you to be a successful Server:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience waiting tables in a hotel, restaurant, or club with fine dining, preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, understand, and follow instructions in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers (seniors), guests, and other staff.
  • Ability to interpret and explain menu, answer questions, coordinate meal service, and understand requests.
  • Ability to work in close cooperation with residents, guests, visitors, families, supervisor, and peers.
  • Must be courteous, tactful, and gracious always.

Physical Requirement/Working Conditions:

  • Work indoors and outdoors.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for 100% of the workday.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. independently.
  • Must be able to push and pull bus carts weighing up to 50 lbs. independently.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, and balance frequently throughout the workday.
