Research Support Specialist I

We are seeking a Research Support Specialist I for our Insourcing Solutions site in Baltimore, MD.

Essential Duties

• Performs in a lead role daily, will be required to train and mentor staff.
• Instruct facility required animal handling and restraint classes for new animal users.
• Assist with teaching the basic rodent surgery training course, using both didactic and hands-on methods.
• Assist with coordinating the logistics for in-house surgery training, to include ensuring appropriate equipment, supplies, and other training materials are on hand and positioned, scheduling of staff for participation in classes, and appropriate documentation of training.
• Provide rodent surgical support that includes pre-, intra- and post-surgery tasks.
• Assist in scheduling students for outside NIH surgery courses.
• Ensure proper stockage of materials, maintenance scheduling for equipment, sanitization, and related tasks.

Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Research Support Specialist I position:

Education: HS diploma or GED equivalency required. Experience/Certification: Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with research animals. Experience in performing research specific technical procedures. Has knowledge of mammalian biological functions, maintaining research animal colonies, performing routine laboratory animal technical procedures (bleeding, injections, breeding, etc.), and utilizing computer skills to perform various aspects of the position.

The pay for this position is $27.74 USD per hour.
