Safety & Asset Protection Specialist

Job Summary
Responsible for preventing financial loss caused by internal theft and fraud as well as ensuring a safe working environment for all Goodwill employees. Supports the Asset Protection and Safety Programs in various ways including investigations, audits, cash control analysis, safety and other program specific training, and surveillance footage review for program area and/or in partnership with Human Resources.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review Point of Sale (POS) data utilizing various exception-based reports to develop best-practices for reducing potential theft issues.
- Initiate theft/fraud case leads and provide actionable data to drive successful case closures.
- Independently identify incidents of associate fraud and theft activity through data and other investigative sources.
- Perform comprehensive security and safety audits as assigned.
- Perform internal interviews of employees, as needed.
- Prepare accurate and detailed case reports.
- Preserve evidence e.g., transaction reports and video.
- Interact with law enforcement and safety regulation entities.
- Testify in criminal and civil court actions.
- Report any identified hazardous or unsafe conditions to management.
- Review surveillance footage and maintain a strong working knowledge of software utilized for video management.
- Assists in maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets at all locations (MSDS).
- Maintains a working knowledge of OSHA and Goodwill requirements related to safety equipment and procedures.
- Partner with Human Resources on employee matters as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Able to maintain strict confidentiality and work independently with minimal supervision.

- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, speak effectively before groups of customers and/or employees with the ability to work independently in professional manner.
- Proficient in speaking, reading, and writing the English language.
- Pass a pre-employment drug-screening.
- Pass a criminal background check, having no record or disclosure of criminal conviction that indicates a tendency toward theft, violence, dishonesty, deceit, drug manufacture or sale, moral turpitude, or predatory behavior.
- Must be at least 21 years of age and have an insurable driving record.
- Possess and maintain a valid State appropriate (Oregon or Alaska) Drivers License or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Experience
Minimum two years of retail loss prevention/asset protection/workplace safety experience or equivalent. Relevant education, work history or retail experience will be evaluated for related and transferable equivalency.
Education
High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Possess and maintain a valid State appropriate (Oregon or Alaska) Drivers License and insurable driving record required. May travel to various worksites.
Possess or ability to obtain within 90 days a Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST) certification in unarmed private security in the state of Oregon.
Physical Demands of Work Requirements
- Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel or crouch for extended periods.
- Frequently required to coordinate eye/hand/foot movement to safely maneuver in/out of vehicles, navigate floor layouts, and operate computers and CCTV equipment.
- Occasionally walk on uneven ground in undeveloped areas.
- Frequently required to see and hear activity in the stores and while reviewing/monitoring CCTV systems.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus and work continuously at a computer screen or monitor.
- Frequently lift, push/pull, carry, and/or move up to 25lbs. and occasionally lift/carry up to 50lbs. Large or heavier items (50lbs. or more) are moved using appropriate material handling equipment and/or assistance from co-workers.
- Frequently adapt to situations involving interpreting feelings, emotions, ideas, or facts from a personal viewpoint and aligning with Company policies, procedures and best practice.
- Understand and accept directions and follow established procedures.
Work Environment
Work may be performed in settings as varied as a climatically controlled office to outdoor observations locations, warehouse and retail store environments. Work is completed independently but in cooperation and partnership with all departments and locations. You may be subject to stressful situations, including aggravated, uncooperative individuals. Exposure to hazardous situations includes but is not limited to needle sticks, weapons, communicable diseases and violence.
Work Hours
Work schedule is varied depending on business need, work assignment/tasks and/or incidents that may arise. The work schedule may include evenings, weekends, holidays and late night/early morning hours.
