Crew Chief - Public Works

Pay: $21.54 - 32.29 per hour, $44,803.20 - $67,163.20 annually
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 4701 S. West Street
Helps supervise and participates in the work of crew engaged in infrastructure projects involving stream maintenance, bridge and concrete work, and road maintenance. Participates in snow and ice removal operations.
Responsibilities
- Train and work with crew members and other subordinate workers.
- Operate all assigned equipment with a high degree of proficiency.
- Ensure crew members are trained to operate assigned equipment.
- Find opportunities for crew members to develop equipment operation skills in a variety of settings.
- Perform preventative maintenance and make minor repairs to equipment.
- Perform manual work associated with equipment operations.
Planning and Supervision
- Assist the Foreman in planning, scheduling, and assigning work to crew.
- Plan, direct, and supervise the work of a small crew.
- Plan and supervise the setup and operation of work sites, including bridge, drainage, and county preventative maintenance projects.
- Assist the Foreman in evaluating job performance.
- Wear PPE and enforce local, state, and federal safety regulations.
Snow and Ice Removal
- Participate in snow and ice removal operations.
- Operate a dump truck with a blade and spreader to clear roads of snow and ice.
- Operate a motor grader for snow and ice removal when necessary.
- Ensure equipment is in working condition.
- Ensure equipment is cleaned, fueled, and loaded for the following shift.
- Report problems immediately to the shift supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Three years of Public Works or road construction experience.
- Valid US driver’s license without restrictions and current proof of automobile insurance.
- Must have or obtain a valid Kansas Commercial Driver’s License Class A with air brakes and tanker endorsements.
