Chaplain - Spiritual Care

POSITION SUMMARY: The chaplain provides spiritual care to patients, families, and associates, reaching across religious and cultural boundaries. Provides ethical and spiritual guidance to help make treatment choices. Promotes a spiritual environment within the hospital by participating in and organizing prayer services on special occasions. Accomplishes ministry goals by visiting patients, providing follow-up ministry, taking spiritual care calls, making sacramental referrals, and maintaining professional skills.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Written endorsement from appropriate ecclesiastical authority consistent with denominational practice. Demonstrated connection to a recognized religious community.
EDUCATION: Theological training or experience in hospital ministry. Required: Bachelor’s in Ministry, Masters in Divinity (MDiv) or related field.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSES: Minimum of three (3) units of Clinical Pastoral Education required or proof of enrollment from ACPE. Must obtain four (4) units of CPE within two years of hire/transfer.
SKILLS:
- Understanding of Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services.
- Demonstrates honesty in all relationships.
- Ability to work in a stressful environment.
- Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable about department policies and procedures.
- Ability to use computer, printer, telephone, etc.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of experience in hospital or hospice ministry.
NATURE OF SUPERVISION:
- Responsible to: Manager of Spiritual Care

Works in a clean, well-lighted, ventilated, smoke-free environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work may require walking, sitting, and standing. Subject to irregular hours. May require lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 20 lbs.
