The University of Alaska Anchorage’s (UAA) Student Union is seeking applications to round out the team of event and operations professionals. Experience the rewards of working in higher education and growing your professional skills while having the flexibility to pursue your academic goals.

This is a 9-month, hourly position. Duties will include but are not limited to customer service, ensuring event spaces are set up correctly, cash handling, and keeping spaces organized and clean.

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to perform excellent customer service.
  • Ability to exercise patience, focus, and understanding, and to lead others in stressful or emergency situations.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and quality decision-making in working with customers and events in the Student Union.
  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks and projects with little to no supervision, and to delegate tasks to others.
  • Knowledge of/ability to work with audiovisual equipment.
  • Good organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to research answers or information without oversight.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with accommodation.
  • Willingness to learn all job duties and accept new job duties as needed.
  • Commitment to role modeling values of the Student Union, including quality customer service and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must have earned a high school diploma or equivalent GED. To be eligible for student employment, an applicant must: a. Be enrolled in the University of Alaska system with a minimum of six credit hours in the current semester of employment; or b. Have been enrolled the preceding semester for six or more credit hours and demonstrate plans to enroll for six or more credit hours in the next semester for employment between semesters; and c. Have at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or approval from the MAU Senior Student Services officer or his/her designee. d. Students enrolled in non-traditional programs of study will be considered eligible for student employment with the approval of the Senior Student Services officer. e. An applicant must provide evidence of enrollment as outlined above to substantiate employment eligibility.

Position Details:

This student position is open to part-time, up to 20 hours a week, paying $18.18 per hour. With up to 40 hours a week available with a student employee waiver.

Candidates must be flexible to work early mornings (6:45am), late evenings (11pm), and weekends.
