Job Summary

The Production Packer is responsible for ensuring production materials are sorted, verified, and located to appropriate staging stations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The list below is intended to capture the most essential duties and responsibilities of the job. The list is not exhaustive, and other duties may be assigned at any time. As the lead and supported his/her team:

  • Executes packaging operations efficiently and accurately according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Ensures product quality by inspecting for defects, damaged packaging, or deviations from specifications.
  • Reports any issues to supervisors or quality control staff promptly.
  • Participates in periodic inventory counts and notifies supervisors when supplies are low.
  • Maintains records and ensures traceability by completing production logs and batch records.
  • Communicates and elevates any quality and food safety concerns to supervisor and/or management.
  • Meets production targets and deadlines, optimizing packaging processes and identifying opportunities for productivity improvements.
  • Adheres to safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations.

Scope

  • No supervisory or managerial responsibility.
  • Normal responsibilities associated with monitoring and reporting everyday expenses.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma or GED

Experience

  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Capabilities

  • General knowledge of machine operations, production processes, and quality control.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) requirements.
  • General knowledge of cGMP systems for liquid and powder.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Commits to long hours of work when necessary; completes tasks on time.
  • Demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles.
  • Able to read and interpret written information.
  • Consistently at work and on time.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

  • The work environment is that of a manufacturing plant, specifically one that manufactures food products.
  • May be required to work weekends, nights, or holidays.
  • Continuously required to stand; occasionally required to walk or move from place to place.
  • Continuously required to utilize hand and finger dexterity.
  • Occasionally required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Continuously required to use hands and arms in handling or moving items.
  • Continually required to talk or hear; occasionally required to taste or smell.
  • Continuously work near moving mechanical parts; occasionally work around fumes or airborne particles.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move more than 20 pounds; frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move more than 55 pounds with assistance.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Travel is not required.

Personal Protective Equipment

  • PPE may be required in certain areas as designated by OSHA.
  • Certain items as defined by OSHA may be prohibited in certain areas due to safety hazards.
