The Engineer I – Prototype & Development will be responsible for the development and testing of prototype designs for automotive parts and components, Engineering Development, and Fleet Management.

$70,000 - $75,000 /annual salary. Compensation will vary DOE.

Engineer I - Prototype & Development
The Engineer I – Prototype & Development will be responsible for the development and testing of prototype designs for automotive parts and components, Engineering Development, and Fleet Management.
Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
- Work with mechanical and electrical engineers to conceptualize, design, test, and build mechanical systems for upcoming vehicle platforms
- Rework or fabricate items needed for early development
- Collaboratively work in a multidisciplinary team to design electromechanical parts taking into account tolerancing and all requirements of the system
- Conduct hand calculations and CAE analysis to guarantee performance on every design
- Integrate prototype parts into the product and verify fit, form, and function
- Participating in research and development activities to develop new engineering ideas or improve existing designs
- Standard design of mechanical systems, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned
- Evaluating new technology and materials to determine their potential applications in existing products or in new products
- Support vehicle testing and validation
- Conducting engineering tests on prototypes to measure performance against design specifications
- Preparing estimates of costs for new products based on various design options and materials
- Coordinating with other departments to ensure that the product can be manufactured efficiently and cost effectively
- Analyzing customer feedback about existing products or services to help improve future offerings
- Strong hands-on experience testing mechanical components
Education
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Related Technical Field
- Broad knowledge of all vehicle systems (including powertrain, chassis, electrical, thermal, exteriors, & interiors) & relative components, component materials & fasteners
- Experience in Formula SAE, EcoCar, or SAE Baja, or similar multi-domain projects
- Experience with automotive prototypes, motorsport, or occupant package and ergonomics test properties
- Experience using 3D Modeling tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, ProE or similar to design real world components
- Proficient with desktop software (including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Some experience with manufacturing instructions, electrical diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- The successful candidate must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of the technical aspects of automotive design and engineering.
- Team-first mindset and ability to multi-task under tight deadlines
- Ability to think creatively and to champion innovative prototype solutions.
- Some experience with instrumentation
- Proficient with hand and power tools
- Moderate experience with machining and lathe equipment
- Some experience with 3d printing
- Passion for automotive
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment
- Reliable, innovative, committed self-starter, with a focus on quality.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Possess the desire and ability to learn new technologies.
