Safety and Security Officer

The duties that the incumbent of the vacancy will be expected to perform.

Duties Description

• Patrol and inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment to monitor and ensure environmental health.
• Handle all safety and security issues.
• Instruct employees and individuals about emergency fire and safety practices and procedures.
• Prevent the endangerment of patients and individuals with disabilities, employees, visitors and property.
• Search for and eliminate contraband.
• Operate emergency vehicles.
• Transport patients and staff on and off the premises.
• Complete incident reports and other written reports.
• May testify in a court of law or at other hearings.
• Utilize computers, cameras, fingerprinting equipment, and complex alarm systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School or equivalent diploma or higher degree.
• Reachable on the current Safety & Security Officer Trainee 1 eligible list.
• One year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

New York State Residency & Citizenship

At the time of appointment, you must be a resident of New York State and a citizen of the United States.

License Requirements

Possess a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State.

Peace Officer Requirements

Safety and Security Officers have peace officer status as authorized under Criminal Procedure Law Section 2.10 and related laws.

Physical/Medical Requirements

Your physical and medical condition will be evaluated to ensure that you can perform the essential duties of the position.
