Job Description:

RN Float Pool Perioperative, West Penn Hospital

West Penn Hospital’s Periop Float Pool consists of highly trained RN’s who function in four specialty areas: ASC, GI Lab, PACU, and either OR or Cath Lab.

West Penn Hospital features 17 operating rooms and one cystoscopy suite, serving as the robotic hub of the health system with a dedicated burn center and a bariatric center of excellence, performing specialty procedures including robotics, general surgery, bariatrics, women's health, and oncology.

The GI Lab specializes in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, averaging 25 adult patients daily, requiring RN’s to manage pre-procedure assessments, case circulation, and post-anesthesia recovery.

The ASC (Pre-op) unit has 10 bays, while the PACU has 18 bays for recovery.

The Cath Lab includes a STEMI Program with 2 procedural rooms, handling 800 procedures annually, where RN’s work in pre-op, post-op, and procedural areas.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

The RN assesses human responses and delivers nursing care for individuals or families, accountable for the quality of care as a licensed nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • 2 years acute care Operating Room or Cath Lab experience
  • PA RN licensure or multi-state licensure through eNLC
  • CPR certification from the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 clearances

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate clinical assessment and care planning skills.
  • Provide safe and effective care according to regulatory requirements.
  • Manage patient care delivery by the team members.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team for planning care from admission to discharge.
  • Assess and educate patients and families based on their needs.
