We are seeking an experienced Grocery Assistant Manager responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations of the Grocery department staff. Ensuring team members are trained in all aspects of customer service, ordering, and pricing, stocking and fronting shelves, safe work habits, and receiving and handling freight. The Assistant Manager sets the tone for the department regarding the highest requirements in food safety and quality standards and ensures unwavering world-class customer service.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist manager with day-to-day performance of department staff; assign tasks and direct workflow.
  • Serve as a leader in the department, setting the example in customer service, productivity, and work ethic.
  • Assist department manager in scheduling, ensuring proper coverage and attaining labor goals.
  • Organize daily workload to ensure freight and back stock put away, shelves are stocked, and product is rotated.
  • Coach and assist in evaluating staff members.
  • Assist in the management of staff attendance, work performance, or other employee issues in conjunction with the department manager.
  • Assist in the training of staff using department training manual and training checklists; retrain when needed.
  • Coordinate daily huddles and conduct regular staff meetings to maintain good communication.
  • Full understanding of vendors, products, ordering and delivery schedules for the entirety of the grocery umbrella.
  • Assists with the execution of procedures for product, storage, rotation, backstock and floor stock levels.
  • Observe safety and security procedures, report potentially unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure that credits and shrinks are logged and input correctly.
  • Assists with the management and execution of planned ad changes and displays.
  • Participate in quarterly inventory counts.
  • Places orders as needed.

  • Manage workload and prioritize tasks independently.
  • Handle basic issues and refer more complex issues to manager.
  • Able to perform assigned tasks within various areas of the department.
  • Ability to exhibit a strong work ethic and encourage teamwork.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department including early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins.
  • Ability to consistently be at work and on time.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 years of retail and or customer service experience
  • Grocery Specific experience is a bonus but not required.
  • At least 1 year of management experience

Physical Demands:

Sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in a grocery setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight, up to 50lbs; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Working Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a grocery store setting with extensive public contact and frequent interruptions.
