What will you do?
Virscio is seeking a histology laboratory assistant to support the needs of its preclinical histopathology program. This position will perform routine histology laboratory operations typical to laboratory assistant work, in addition to on-the-job training to perform some histotechnologist responsibilities, working with and under the supervision of the Histology Director. Flexibility regarding the variability of daily tasks is critical.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Daily and periodic maintenance of histology laboratory equipment.
- Daily record keeping tasks, such as temperature monitoring and reagent documentation.
- Documentation and creation of histology- and study-related materials, such as tissue cassettes, microscope slide labels, tissue logs, template files for reports, etc.
- Operation and maintenance of routine histology instrumentation, such as embedding centers, tissue processors, whole slide imagers, and maintenance of associated QC logs.
- As time and resources permit: on-the-job, supervised training in tissue gross dissection, tissue embedding, and tissue microtomy.
- Operation and maintenance of systems associated with novel or emerging technologies.
- Procurement, preparation, and disposal of reagents.
- Adherence to established SOPs and safety protocols and compliance with applicable governmental and accrediting organization regulations.
- Maintenance of laboratory supply inventory.
Who are we looking for?
- Bachelor’s degree in a life sciences field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint proficiency
- Prior laboratory experience preferred, with motivation to learn embedding, microtomy and advanced staining and assays.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) preferred.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, commitment to professional growth, and ability to collaborate with local and remote team members.
