Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission is to create economic opportunity for women and gender-expansive people, immigrants, and people of color through culinary skills training, high-quality job placement, food entrepreneurship programs, and an ecosystem of support, utilizing New York City’s vibrant food industry as a catalyst for change. Since our founding, we have served 1,800+ members, placed 650+ members in high-quality jobs, and supported 550+ entrepreneurs to launch small food businessesHot Bread Kitchen offers small business development programs, culinary skills training, and job placement, bolstered by individualized wraparound supportive services. Our small business program, HBK Incubates, supports women entrepreneurs of color as they transform their food businesses into sustainable income sources. Culinary fundamentals, our entry-level culinary training provides access to high-quality jobs for those starting their careers in the food industry, while our upskilling offerings enable incumbent workers to gain further skills leading to higher wages and career advancement. We use an ecosystem approach to support our members by working alongside our network of 200+ food employer partners for job placement, and 250+ nonprofit and government partners for member referrals and community engagement
THE OPPORTUNITY As a key Operations leader, the Evening Project Manager will oversee our HQ operations at Chelsea Market and support the management of our community satellite locations. This role requires strong project management skills to ensure the seamless execution of programs, events, and initiatives. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Evening Project Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operational needs of the organization, working cross-functionally to support programming, events, and team initiatives. The regular hours for this position are 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday through Friday, on-site, with flexibility required as there may be occasions when work hours shift to 9:00 am to 5:00 pm or extend until 10:00 pm. GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management:
- Lead and manage cross-functional projects, ensuring alignment between Operations, Programs, and other departments
- Develop and track detailed project timelines, ensuring deadlines and resources are allocated effectively
- Proactively anticipate and resolve operational challenges while collaborating with teams to adjust project plans as needed
Utilize project management tools to document progress, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring clear communication across stakeholders.
Operational Support:
- Partner with Programs and Operations teams to plan, coordinate, and prepare for upcoming programming and events at Chelsea Market and across community satellite locations
- Collaborate with the Senior Operations Manager and Chief Operating Officer to implement process improvements that enhance operational efficiency
Support emergency planning and procedures, including developing and coordinating regular staff training on safety protocols.
Vendor and Partner Management:
- Manage relationships with key operational vendors and service providers
- Ensure timely communication and coordination with external partners to support event logistics and programming needs
- Review and negotiate vendor contracts, ensuring services align with organizational needs and budgets
Track and manage facility equipment and repair and maintenance schedules.
Facility Events:
Support internal events and rentals of our facility and collaborate with the Senior Operations Manager for general event coordination.

- Minimum of 3 years experience in operations and people management, including a demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with vendors and partners that serve an organization
- Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams and large-scale projects effectively
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to deliver work on assigned schedules
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with an eye for detail
- Proficiency in project management software and tools, with strong computer skills (MS Office, Slack)
- Experience working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills—ability to communicate and work effectively with all levels
- A keen eye for preventing and/or attending to staff safety issues
Demonstrated ability to act decisively and independently to resolve issues.
Location
This position is in-person and requires attendance at our facility in Chelsea Market five days a week. Work hours will be approximately 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. We follow New York City and State guidelines on COVID-19 vaccination and masking.
Compensation
This is a full-time position. The salary range is $75,000- 80,000 and is commensurate with experience. Hot Bread Kitchen’s comprehensive benefits package includes health/vision/dental insurance (available from day one!), 401K contributions, paid office closure (including holidays and staff appreciation days), a one-week holiday break at the end of the year, flexible vacation time, generous sick and paid family leave, and a paid sabbatical program (after 5 years).
