Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the Administrative Assistant within the Center for Tobacco Prevention & Control (CTPC). This position will provide administrative and programmatic support to CTPC leadership and program staff. This position will assist with tasks requiring general knowledge of public health programs including issues related to policy, procedures, grants, contract management and confidential matters. This position will also serve as the primary point of contact for the public, ensuring effective communication with CTPC and will function as backup administrative support for other programs. This position will exercise discretion and judgment in responding to inquiries, problem-solving and making appropriate referrals within CTPC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in public health programs.
  • Experience with policy and procedure issues.
  • Experience in grants and contract management.
  • Experience/skills in handling confidential matters effectively.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
